It was so expensive because cattle needed fields of grass to eat and of course that took up their precious land!(we wouldn't want that to happen, now would we?)</span></div><br /><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"></span></div><br /><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"></span></div><br /><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">People thought that Mutton and goat were not so good,(I can see where they get that idea!!) and pork and fish were considered "unclean." However people ate a lot of fish and poultry because it was the cheapest to buy. Of course, it was also very easy to get because of the Nile River/life line!</span></div><br /><div align="justify"></div><br /><div></div><br /><div align="left"></div>ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-12491345387498867502008-12-14T11:13:00.000-08:002008-12-16T17:16:10.428-08:00Eating on the roof?? It would be hard for me to do that because it would take up time. Although, if it took up part of school... that's a totally different story! Ordinary people often cooked and ate their meals on the roofs of their houses, protected from the sun by a linen sheet on poles!(because, you know, sunscreen wasn't invented yet!) People ate their main meal in the cool evening, quite like us. In ordinary families, the cooking was done by the housewife.(like always!!) In larger households, they employed servants to work in the kitchen and a chef -usually a man (at last!!)- to do the cooking.</span></div>ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-86246778918292061152008-12-13T20:37:00.000-08:002009-01-05T09:45:04.109-08:00Bread and Beer?!!?!?!?!?!?!!?<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_y3a7UqD98gJ-OTxr79MV-6tHT5bV2oP7bcmqGiMdhNV6jlH-WDrl9p3k3KL1zag8BknIcAyWR6HnwKd33LJlh6S0CNRU4Cfg0RZTYu-rKUNExzGw_Kjt4qV7x5dKZZDnvUdmL2OpNaY/s1600-h/proj.2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279500364541408770" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_y3a7UqD98gJ-OTxr79MV-6tHT5bV2oP7bcmqGiMdhNV6jlH-WDrl9p3k3KL1zag8BknIcAyWR6HnwKd33LJlh6S0CNRU4Cfg0RZTYu-rKUNExzGw_Kjt4qV7x5dKZZDnvUdmL2OpNaY/s200/proj.2.jpg" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"> I <strong>love</strong> bread!! That is why i think the Egyptians were so very lucky! Bread was included in the everyday meals of the Egyptian people.(like I said- LUCKY!) The basic foods for everyone were bread and beer. Many homes had a kitchen brewery to make beer!(<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">insanium</span> in the cranium, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">dawg</span>!) Irrigated gardens around villas produced a butt-load of fruits and vegetables such as: melons, figs, dates, onions, peas, beans, lentils, lettuces, leeks, cabbage, turnips, carrots, eggplant, and more.(I could pretty much go on forever, but I was nice and chose just a few!)(Your welcome!!) Vines on trellises produced raisins, wine, and table grapes. Juniper berries were grown as a spice.YUM!<br /></span><div></div>ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-74644659229971842672008-12-13T15:03:00.000-08:002008-12-16T17:17:13.930-08:00Finger foods!!!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyVWroIbUwkxacb3NV-DVvN-M7NbVqauz9AHpmMvmPCAI9ihgqI95RjCzr3SLhzBKbLIip4IBFlxVxXfMTHXUj0-V3USiBMd2TKr3UDsrHy5tTtuMKJX8zW5WvWBw8tj84SIylwLrB8dk/s1600-h/proj..jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279415651514916978" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 189px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 212px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyVWroIbUwkxacb3NV-DVvN-M7NbVqauz9AHpmMvmPCAI9ihgqI95RjCzr3SLhzBKbLIip4IBFlxVxXfMTHXUj0-V3USiBMd2TKr3UDsrHy5tTtuMKJX8zW5WvWBw8tj84SIylwLrB8dk/s200/proj..jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Do you like finger foods? I know I do! The Egyptians were also very fond of finger foods! Food for us is the key to survival and something to fill our hungry bellies! Food for the Egyptians was an offering or gift to the gods.(But, of course they ate it because none of them would have survived if they didn't!) There was a very large amount of bread, joints of meat, roasted fowl, baskets of fruit and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">vegetables</span> and jars of beer and wine for the wealthy. Believe it or not, the Egyptians drank beer every day like it was water! Pretty <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">gross</span>, huh? They ate salted and fresh fish, but not much meat!</span></div><div></div><div></div>ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-19060935990855050842008-12-11T07:24:00.000-08:002009-01-05T08:45:01.806-08:00STONE- In bread? The flour was made by crushing the grain and shaking off the outside husks. The grain was then ground between two stones. The flour had little pieces of stone in it from the grinding. YUCK!! So the bread wore away the Egyptians' teeth! In my opinion, I wouldn't ever eat bread with stone in it! Okay, so maybe I would if that was my only food and I was STARVING. Besides that, though, it would be very disgusting and <strong><span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">UN</span></strong>appealing. Anyway... The bread was then baked in pairs of cone-shaped pots placed together to form mini-ovens. Pretty cool!</span>ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-46952954582552452132008-12-11T07:21:00.000-08:002008-12-13T09:01:00.712-08:00What are some of the simmilarities and differences between ancient Egyptian food and modern day food?ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-90996091932289030692008-12-11T07:19:00.000-08:002008-12-11T07:21:35.563-08:00What would you say is the most important fact you learned about Ancient Egyptian food from my blog?ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-8489268846709937282008-12-11T07:18:00.001-08:002008-12-13T15:01:02.151-08:00What are areas of STRENGTH of this BLOG???ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4934559014401945932.post-66006047150404602152008-12-11T07:16:00.000-08:002008-12-13T15:02:18.277-08:00What is an area of IMPROVEMENT for this blog???ClairMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11704678100586626073noreply@blogger.com1
